February News 2015 ImgWinning the 2014 GE Healthcare Finnamore Emerging Leaders Competition most certainly has to be our news for February! What an honour!

The GE Healthcare Finnamore Emerging Leaders competition invited individuals and groups to write a 3,000-word essay, focusing on delivery of change beyond traditional NHS settings. The shortlisted candidates were invited to present their thoughts to a panel of high-profile judges on 27th January 2015.

In September last year, Kirti Tandel, Business Development Manager at Mednet Consult Ltd – who modelled the software solution supporting the scheme’s evaluative system, funded last year by the DH – somehow convinced me that we should enter the competition. I suspect I didn’t fully check what it entailed; to be honest, would you willingly submit to taking part in what has been described as an “Apprentice-style interview” by Sir Bruce Keogh (National Medical Director); Clare Pelham (Chief Executive, Leonard Cheshire Disability); Alastair McLellan (Editor, HSJ) and Bruce Finnamore (GE Healthcare Finnamore special advisor)?

When we heard that we’d been selected as finalists, I looked rather more closely. “Prepare to be challenged and to be challenging”, read the description. (“Well, being challenging won’t be a problem!” offered my admin assistant). On the day, the interviewers were most gracious and we came away having (almost) enjoyed the process! It was certainly enjoyable to meet the other finalists, who were presenting on a wide range of topics. Here’s the link to the details.
