A theme running through October has been a unified approach by whole healthcare communities to adopt the Butterfly Scheme across all areas. Three Shropshire trusts – Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust; Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust – made a joint decision to adopt the scheme, so that the same care could be delivered  wherever patients were being treated; they are now all working to embed the scheme. Whilst it’s been a consistent pattern over the years for neighbouring trusts to adopt the scheme once it has proven successful locally, this sort of unified approach from the outset is relatively new. Meanwhile, working very closely with Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which launched the scheme 18 months ago, Humber NHS Foundation Trust has now begun its adoption of the scheme and has included Dove House Hospice, City Health Care Partnership and also prison services, enabling a seamless approach across the area. This is definitely a trend which bodes well for patient care.

And of course there have been plenty of Butterfly-themed cakes at launch events! These are from Ludlow Community Hospital and East Surrey Hospital. Bake Off candidates?
