I wish we could have had more talks like this in my training as I learnt so much and I feel it is something that I can easily take back to my areas of placement to provide a better way of caring for people with dementia. (Student Nurse 3rd year)

It was so nice to be included in learning more about dementia as we are often the ones on the “shop floor” and have daily contact with the patients but never seem to have any training on how to talk and deal with the patients or know what is wrong with them. (The scheme) will help us to help them more (Domestic)

Brilliant, simple and effective. Why hasn’t the Butterfly Scheme been thought of sooner? I would recommend that it is used everywhere. (Nurse)

I have learnt more in one of the 30 minute sessions during the Butterfly Scheme launch than in a whole day of previous dementia training. Would recommend the scheme to everyone (Social Services)

I thought the way the message and information was given during the talks in the session I went to was so good because it came from the carers themselves who had experienced caring for a loved one with dementia and hearing the examples of their experiences had more of an effect. (Voluntary Sector)

Very good presentation and examples of personal experience helped in learning more about caring for patients with memory problems. (Nurse)

The passion and enthusiasm of the speakers who it was clear cared very much about improving the way we care for patients with dementia came across quite strongly and gave more impact to learning more about how to care for people with memory problems. (Nurse)

I feel as a carer for someone with dementia we have a lot to offer in helping staff manage and care for our loved one much better while they are in hospital. I think the Butterfly Scheme is a great step forward in involving carers more when staff are planning the patient’s care because we know the person behind the illness and it helps us as well because we are being listened to. (Carer)

I wish the Butterfly Scheme was also available in the Community as it would help us to recognise people with dementia and how to respond to them appropriately. (District Nurse)

I have learnt so much more by attending the Butterfly Scheme talk than ever before on dementia and what I have learnt has alleviated some of the concerns I had about caring for patients with dementia. (Nurse)

I think the scheme is a brilliant way of helping us care for patients with memory problems. The presentation was very good and the speakers so positive it has encouraged me to take what I have learnt back to my area of work and I can’t wait to see it in practice (Occupational Therapist)

Many of the talks I have been to before on improving dementia care haven’t really give us enough information on how to improve the care we provide and the way we deal with people with dementia. I am glad to say attending the talk on the Butterfly Scheme has changed this for me as I learnt so much and I feel that this was due to the quality of the presenters who have helped to inspire me and I can’t wait to be part of the team in developing the scheme on my ward (Nurse)

Such an easy to remember guide and response and a simple identification system which should help staff to improve the provision of care for patients with dementia and other memory problems while in hospital. The presentation was very good and had a great deal of impact in the group I was in as we all were all talking about it afterwards (Local Authority Manager)

I think the Butterfly Scheme is such a good idea and because of its simplicity will work much better and it doesn’t involve reams of paper work which we are increasingly faced with and actually takes us away from caring for patients. (Nurse)

I thought the presentation was very good and it was so nice to see that the Butterfly Scheme involves all grades of staff and all departments. Getting everyone involved and aware is very important and also gives recognition to everyone’s worth and role in caring for people when they’re in hospital (Hotel Services)

Even though I don’t have direct patient contact I attended to know more about the Butterfly Scheme and learnt so much and such a good presentation.

My father has been diagnosed with dementia and the tips I picked up from attending the launch drop in session will really help me and my family as I have been able to advise them on the things I learnt. Many Thanks (Administration Dept)
